A breach of ‘my democratic rights’

Today is local council election day for most folk in Shetland and Scotland but not for us in the Shetland North ward.

Our polling stations are closed, and we get no right to vote because the three seats are uncontested.

This is totally wrong as we all have the same right to mark our ballot papers that the candidate/candidates do not represent my needs or political aspirations.

This is a breach of my and others democratic rights in this ward and I’ve made a formal complaint to both the Shetland Islands Council and the Electoral Commission.

If anyone else out there has grave reservations on the state of UK democracy and is also of the opinion that all votes count including our right to reject candidates, please submit your own complaint. I’m happy to point you in the direction as to how.
