First Viking Energy turbines nearing completion

BLADES are now being installed on the Viking Energy wind farm turbines currently under construction in Shetland’s Central Mainland.

Several large cranes are working on different sites across the construction area with the first blades added to the turbine towers at Laxo and near Aith. Some photos on social media show completed turbines.

Once they are fitted the height from the bottom of each turbine to the tip of the blade will reach up to 155 metres.

A total of 103 turbines are being installed, with the wind farm due to go live in 2024.
