Council issues firework safety advice
SHETLAND Islands Council (SIC) has issued firework safety advice ahead of Bonfire Night next month. The council advised people to buy only from licensed retailers, either in-store or online, and reminded them it is illegal to buy fireworks (other than sparklers or indoor fireworks) for people under 18. From Unst to Africa – Henderson celebrates 30th birthday with a twist
ADVENTURER Tom Henderson celebrated his 30th birthday in his own unique style – by driving a converted ambulance from Unst to Africa. Instead of a big party or a meal with friends, Henderson and girlfriend Kiara Casafranca started his third decade by trekking from the northernmost point of Shetland to Morocco. A FEMALE cyclist is in a serious condition in hospital in Aberdeen after she came off her tricycle on Lerwick’s Ladies Drive at around lunchtime on Monday. Police closed parts of the road yesterday as the woman was taken to the Gilbert Bain Hospital. Read more

NHS Shetland is still confident the isles will get a new hospital, despite the Scottish Government having to fund £10 million in urgent repairs to the Gilbert Bain.
